Speaking to reporters after the rally, Dr JD Rani, Additional District Medical Health Officer (DMHO) East Khasi Hills said, “We have decided to stage a rally as part of observing World Health Day because we want the people to open their eyes on the importance of health.”

“It’s only in East Khasi Hills that the campaign on measles and rubella is being headed with an intension to eradicate measles and control rubella. However, till date, we have yet to attain our objective as the people have not stepped forward to take the immunization,” she said.

She informed that in other districts of the State, the immunization has attained 95 per cent.

“There is a need for the community to work hand-in-hand with the Health department with an objective to eradicate diseases as there is a saying that ‘health is wealth’,” she said.
