Youth shot at Lapalang bridge near Shillong

SHILLONG: A youth was injured when he was shot at by miscreants in the city on Sunday night. According to police, the injured has been identified as one Pynskhembor Kharmawlong (24), son of Alxander Mukhim of Nongrah Lummarboh locality.

Police said that the incident occurred at around 11.40 pm on Sunday night at Lapalang bridge, near the SBI ATM under Rynjah police station. Apparently, a scuffle broke out between some local youths and another unknown group of persons before the unidentified miscreants took out a pistol and shot at the victim. The injured person was shifted to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and is stated to be out of danger. He had gunshot injury on his left elbow.

Police said that during initial investigation, it was revealed that Kharmawlong told the police that he came out of his house after receiving a call from his friends about the scuffle at the locality. Police said soon after an unknown person came out of the vehicle and fired upon him. An empty cartridge of 9-mm pistol was recovered from the site. Meanwhile, another report states that there were possibly two persons who committed the crime. A case in this regard has been registered by the police even as the victim’s friends are being quizzed. A manhunt is on, to trace the shooter.
