Both new patients are returnees who had come back to the state after the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Meanwhile, Mizoram has announced a complete lockdown in the state that came into effect on June 9 to mitigate the spread of the pathogen. The move, that was announced after a consultative meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Zoramthanga, comes as other states opened malls, restaurants, and places of worship after two months as part of the Central Government's 'Unlock-1' guidelines, expected to return life to normal in a "phased" manner.

"Consultative meeting chaired by CM decides to impose 2 weeks total lockdown of the state w.e.f 00:00 hours of 9th June 2020 in view of the prevailing situation. Lockdown Guidelines will be notified shortly," Mizoram's Directorate of Information and Public Relations tweeted.

Subsequently, it was notified that the Mizoram Government has decided to extend the quarantine period from 14 to 21 days.

It may be recalled that Mizoram's first patient, a 50-year-old patient who had returned from the Netherlands, had tested positive on March 25. The second wave of Covid-19 positive cases in Nagaland emerged with the influx of citizens who were stranded in other parts of India amid the lockdown.
