AIZAWL: In a landmark development for the hill state of Mizoram, its capital city, Aizawl, is poised to be connected to the Indian Railways network for the first time with the completion of the Bairabi–Sairang New Railway Line Project under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The new line will extend railway services up to Sairang, a short distance from Aizawl, drastically improving accessibility and opening fresh economic and travel opportunities for the region.

In anticipation of the project’s operational launch, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mizoram in August 2025. The agreement aims to promote inbound and outbound tourism, with IRCTC serving as the front-end marketing agency and Mizoram Tourism providing access to key infrastructure, including tourist lodges. Together, they will curate travel packages, foster local Destination Management Companies, and collaborate with service providers to offer transportation, accommodation, and sightseeing options showcasing Mizoram’s vibrant cultural heritage.

Visitors can look forward to experiencing the state’s colourful festivals, bamboo dances, folk music, and traditional rituals, along with its scenic landscapes—emerald valleys, lush hills, pristine waterfalls, and heritage sites. Mizoram has also carved a niche in adventure tourism, earning recognition for its warm hospitality and serene environment.
