AIZAWL: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on his Saturday visit to the Northeast, gifted a guitar to 7-year-old Mizoram child genius Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte after she sang a poignant version of Vande Mataram in Aizawl.
Admiringly, Shah went on to social media to commend the young singer. "Love for Bharat brings us all together. Moved beyond words to hear Mizoram's wonder child Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte, singing Vande Mataram in Aizawl today. The seven-year-old's passion for Bharat Mata flowed into her song, making hearing her a magical experience," he posted on X.
Hnamte initially achieved national fame in 2020 when a viral video of her singing Maa Tujhe Salaam created a buzz on social media and earned her great admiration. Her strong voice and patriotic heart resonated with the nation, and she has now been awarded by the Mizoram government several times, including special appreciation from the Governor.
Shah, who is on a three-day tour of Assam from March 14, called on Mizoram on March 15, where he witnessed the ceremony of transfer of land of Assam Rifles to the Mizoram government. Addressing the function, he praised the Assam Rifles for their service to the state, saying that their motto has always been "security through fraternity."
"The Assam Rifles has worked dedicatedly for the people of Mizoram. The force has established a benchmark of dedication today by donating a considerable chunk of land to the state government for the people," Shah stated in an X post.
During his address, Shah emphasized that the relocation of the Assam Rifles Headquarters from Central Aizawl to Zokhawsang marked a crucial step in fulfilling the long-standing demand of the Mizo people. Due to Mizoram’s challenging topography, this relocation had been a request for over 35 years.
"These 30-35 years old demand has now to be met following a crucial decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is not only an administrative order but also a reflection of the accountability of the Indian government towards the Mizo community," said Shah.
He also pointed out the role played by the Modi government in changing the Northeast for the last ten years. Important sectors like tourism, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship have been on the growth path, with both economic progress and regional integration taking place.
