DAWKI/ LUNGLEI: The BSF (Border Security Force) Meghalaya and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) observed the 'Vijay Diwas at ICP (Integrated Check Post) in Dawki while the Assam Rifles celebrated the occasion at various places in Mizoram on Wednesday.

Bangladesh celebrates its 'Victory Day' On December 16, 1971. It was on this day that Bangladesh won its freedom after months of bloodshed and struggle and emerged as an Independent Nation.

On the occasion, Inspector General BSF Meghalaya Hardeep Singh along with DIG BSF U.K. Nayal exchanged sweets and greetings with BGB at Dawki ICP.

The BSF officers at Tura paid floral tribute at war memorial Killapara in the honour of war heroes who sacrificed their life during the 1971 war. The BSF brass band show was also organized during the event. The War Memorial at BOP (Border Observation Post) Killapara in West Garo Hills marks the importance of 1971 war fought on the Eastern front where BOP Killapara was being guarded by the BSF. The BSF jawans denied the Pakistani troops the strategic control over the Dalu-Tura Road. A special tribute was paid to late B.S. Tyagi — Commandant (retd) BSF, who exhibited exemplary courage while taking on the numerically superior Pakistan Army during the 1971 war. He had only a handful of men at his disposal. The BSF Jawans fought valiantly and repulsed two enemy attacks. The BSF men fought till the 'Last Man Last Bullet' and nine BSF personnel made the supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives in the service of the motherland, stated a release.

AR celebrates occasion: The Battalions of 23 Assam Rifles Sector under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) organised a series of events at Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei and forward locations on the occasion of 'Vijay Diwas' on December 16, 2020. The aim of the drive was to foster a sense of self respect and unity in diversity and instill a sense of pride and dignity among the local populace of the Sector's 'Area of Responsibility'.

The 23 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a series of events on the occasion. The activities included lecture on the Indo-Pak war of 1971, 'Weapon Display' at villages near forward posts, movie screening, significance and rendering of the National Anthem, weapon display and drawing, as well as recitation and wrist-band making among children. The drive was attended by about 200 villagers (Including 65 children) from all across Mizoram.

The Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles celebrated 'Vijay Divas' in Kamzawl Village within the Lunglei district of Mizoram on December 16. This auspicious day was marked by the visit and tree plantation by Maj. Gen. S.S. Deusi, VSM, Additional Director General, Assam Rifles.The event was marked by a felicitation and interactive session with the ex-servicemen (ESM) of the Army and Assam Rifles. Altogether 47 ESMs and their dependents participated in the event, stated a release.
