Assam Rifles organizes heart camp in Mizoram

AIZAWL: The Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), organized the first of its kind Heart Wellness Camp in Mizoram at Champhai on Thursday, stated a press release.

The camp was conducted with the aim of providing cardiology-related advice and medical facilities to the local population, as the area lacks the specialists required for addressing emergency and serious cases.

A team of three cardio specialists, headed by Vivek Jawli, Chief Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon, Chairman of the Fortis group of hospitals. A very renowned person in his field, he has also been the President of Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeons (IACTS) since 2008. The team arrived at Aizawl on March 8 and moved to Champhai on Wednesday. The camp was inaugurated by Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM, DIG 23 Sector Assam Rifles at YMA Kahwarat ground, Champhai. District administration officials, including the SP and DC of Champhai, NGO office bearers and the ex-servicemen of Champhai were also present at the event.

The Pipe Band display by 8 AR was followed by Interaction by DIG and doctors with patients and locals. The team of doctors will be carrying out cardio evaluation of 130 pre-screened patients and in addition will perform open heart bypass surgeries for selected patients at Trinity hospital, Aizawl. The proactive assistance and facilities for surgery provided by Trinity hospital under Dr Lalrin Tluangajahau enabled the venture to be taken to a smooth conclusion. The complete project has been covered under AR's civic action programme and is a blessing in disguise for the locals. Moreover, this medical camp is the first of its kind in the entire North-East where such renowned experts have come and helped the locals.
