Assam Rifles recovers methamphetamine worth Rs 167.86 crore in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered Methamphetamine tablets (5,05,000 tablets, total weight - 55.80 kg) worth Rs 167,86,20,000 in general area Melbuk village, in the Champhai district on September 23, 2022.

A joint team of Serchhip Battalion and Zokhawthar Police based on specific information carried out the operation.

The team noticed the movement of the suspect, stopped the vehicle and intercepted it. A thorough spot checking led to the recovery of 50 bundles suspected to be Methamphetamine tablets hidden in various compartments of the vehicle. The team took the lady carrying the consignment into custody.

The AR team handed over the seized items and the detained lady to Zokhawthar Police Station, Champhai district, Mizoram on September 24, 2022, a press release said.
