Aizawl: The Assam Rifles carried out two high-value anti-narcotics operations in Mizoram, seizing contraband worth over ₹46 crore within 72 hours.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team of Assam Rifles conducted a successful raid on July 26 in the Melbuk, Zokhawthar area near the Indo-Myanmar border. The search operation led to the recovery of 1.041 kg of Heroin No. 4 and 9.381 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, with a total market value of approximately ₹40.05 crore. The seized drugs were handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation and legal action.

Earlier on July 24, a joint operation involving Assam Rifles, Aizawl Police, and the Narcotics Department was launched in the Tuikhuahtlang area of Aizawl. Based on intelligence inputs, the team established a vehicle checkpoint and intercepted a vehicle carrying 1.97 kg of meth tablets valued at ₹6.6 crore. Three individuals were apprehended on the spot.

All contraband items and the arrested individuals have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Aizawl. These operations highlight Assam Rifles’ continued efforts in curbing cross-border drug trafficking and securing the vulnerable Northeast corridor from narco-terrorism.
