AIZAWL: In a major successful operation against anti-national activities, Assam Rifles in Mizoram recovered a cache of ammunition, one NX 200 air gun and also apprehended two Myanmarese nationals recently, stated a press release.

The operation was carried out near the border village of Lungbun of Siaha district, based on a specific Intelligence. The operation was timely launched by Assam Rifles personnel from Siaha post of the Lunglei Battalion, along with the local police representatives of Siaha.

The team had a specific information regarding move of two two-wheelers carrying ammunition. The Assam Rifles team along with police representatives established a mobile check post on the IMB where the vehicles' movement was anticipated. The troops occupied the vantage points in the vicinity to maintain secrecy and intercepted one Kenbo Bike and One Royal Enfield ridden by two Myanmarese nationals. A total of 2,000 12-bore 70mm ammunition and one air gun were recovered from them. The two Myanmarese nationals were later handed over to police officials.

Use of such war-like stores could have endangered the lives of innocent people and led to various life-threatening activities. This recovery has prevented the loss of precious human lives. It is also assessed that such ammunition consignments are being sent to Myanmar to support the actions of CDF. This operation is a huge setback for all anti-national activists. The operation's success would go a long way in establishment of peace and harmony along the Indo-Myanmar border.
