

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 751.2 gm of heroin worth over Rs 3 crore in the Venglai area of Champhai district in Mizoram on Tuesday, stated a press release.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 20 FIT (DGARFIU) and representatives of the Customs department, Champhai, based on specific information. One person has been detained for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling of heroin is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. The Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of North-East' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
