Cops Recovers Burnt Bodies Of 3 Missing From Mizoram In Myanmar Forest

AIZAWL: A senior police officer reported on Friday that the burned remains of three Mizoram citizens, among them a woman, had been discovered in a jungle within Myanmar, not far from the Indo-Myanmar border.

According to Mizoram's Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, the deceased have been identified as Biaksuii (48), B. Lalthafamkima (40), and Babloo (37), all of whom are from the Siaha district in south-central Mizoram.

He claimed that the three had vanished on March 19 after leaving Ainak village in the Siaha district and heading towards Myanmar.

They had been held captive ever since, he claimed, and on Thursday morning, their burned carcasses were found in a forest inside Myanmar, not far from the international border.

The perpetrators, who were originally linked with a rebel group before distancing themselves from it, are thought to be from Myanmar, according to Khiangte. He claimed that the state police have begun a manhunt for the criminal(s).

Khiangte claims that criminals murdered and set ablaze three victims after they allegedly failed to return money intended for buying weapons.

According to reports, the victims returned the money after failing to purchase any weapons, but the criminals claimed that the money was not fully returned. He said that the probe was ongoing.

The top Mara women's organisation, Mara Thyutlia Pi, which is based in Siaha, called for harsh punishment for the offenders.

Following the military junta's coup in February 2021, thousands of people from Myanmar have sought sanctuary in Mizoram. Due to armed battles between the Myanmar Army and pro-democracy protesters or rebel groups, refugees from neighbouring countries have continued to come in.

Myanmar and Mizoram are separated by a 510-kilometer international boundary.
