An FIR has been filed against the Mizoram home minister R Lalzirliana by the Zoram People’s Movement party activist Rodinliana Tochhawng. Notably, earlier Tochhawng from Khawzawl village in eastern Mizoram, who also happens to be the incumbent secretary of ZPM Khawzawl branch, was arrested on charges of writing a hate letter and attempting to murder the Mizoram chief minister.
The ZPM leader states in the FIR that he was being held wrongfully and charges made against him were baseless. As stated by the activist, he had actually written an open letter to the chief minister of Mizoram Lal Thanhawla and this was later manipulated by the police as a hate letter to the CM. he had no such intentions of threatening the chief minister and hence, he terms the allegations made on him as baseless. It is in reply to that baseless harassment and arrest of him that Tochhawng is now filing an FIR against the home minister.
The Zoram People’s Movement too issued a statement saying that Rodinliana did not threaten the chief minister. He instead, had written certain points he felt the state government should have done for the people of Mizoram.
Rodinliana Tochhawng said, “Quantifying my open letter as per the provisions of the Social Media Act 66A of the Indian Constitution and determining my points by the yardstick of Supreme Court ruling, all charges levelled against me were baseless and that it was a mere exercising of my freedom of speech, which is my fundamental right.”
However, Tochhawng is still in police custody for the same charges made against him.
