Aizawl: Four people lost their lives after a car they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Mizoram's Serchhip district on Sunday.

According to reports, the accident occurred near Chhingchhip village, which is about 66 km away from the capital city.

The incident unraveled when the four of them were travelling to Aizawl from Lungtan village in Khawzawl district on Saturday at around 7 pm.

The whereabouts of the victims were not known after their relatives had last communicated with one of the victims over the phone at 11 pm on Friday.

It is believed that the incident took place at around 3 – 3:30 am on Saturday, and all four occupants died on the spot. Their dead bodies were recovered around 180 meters down the road with the assistance of local volunteers at around 11 am.

The victims have been identified as Lungtan village council vice president R Laldingliana (33), Tlangsiama (42), who also happened to hail from Lungtan, Lalsangliana (47) and PC Lalremruata (47), both from Republic Vengthlang locality in Aizawl.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched by the police with regards to the incident and the reason behind the accident is yet to be discovered.
