Go back or ration will be stopped: MHA to Reang refugee leaders

Aizwal, Sept 19 : Union Home Ministry has taken strong view on repatriation of Reang refugees and reportedly threatened to stop supply of free ration and other facilities from October 1. Satyendra Garg, Joint secretary to Ministry for Home Affairs reportedly made it clear to the refugee leaders when they met him at Mizoram capital Aizwal on Monday.

Representative of the Mizoram Government and the two organizations of the refugees the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples’ Forum and the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples’ Co-ordination Committee also were present in the meeting. Representatives of the Equal Package Demand Committee, an organization of the refugees who has returned earlier also were present.

The MBDPF leaders had signed a four corner agreement with the MHA, and the government of Tripura and Mizoram in which last date for repatriation was fixed at September 30.

Garg assured the leaders that all the commitments made in the agreements will be fulfilled and their security also will be ensured after returning to their home state. But the refugee leaders were reluctant to accept the offer.
