Mizo Pop Star Feli Fanai Passes Away Due To Health Complications

One of the most celebrated female pop stars from Mizoram, Feli Fanai gained a devoted fan base that extended beyond the state’s borders, playing a crucial role in shaping the region’s music scene.

AIZAWL: Lalnunfeli Fanai, popularly known as Feli Fanai, a leading figure in Mizo pop music, passed away early Wednesday morning at 2:15 AM local time. She breathed her last at Ebenezer Hospital in Aizawl after a prolonged battle with multiple health complications. The singer had been in intensive care for a significant period during her hospitalization.

Feli was admitted to Aizawl Hospital on December 20, 2024, as her health worsened. She received intensive care but did not improve much. On January 6, 2025, she was moved to Ebenezer Hospital for better treatment.

One of the most celebrated female pop stars from Mizoram, Feli Fanai gained a devoted fan base that extended beyond the state’s borders. She played a crucial role in shaping the region’s music scene by introducing neo-Mizo pop and visually compelling music videos.

Feli started her music career at a young age with her song "Min Hlan Leh La." She released her first studio album, "Fam Khaw Lawi," on November 19, 2013. The album had 10 songs from different composers. It was very special to her as she released it on the anniversary of her father’s passing as a tribute to him.

Feli's second and last album, "Tuma'n An Tluk Lo," was released online on January 30, 2020. The album had 13 songs, including some of her most popular ones like the title track, "Pheichhehmawi I Khai Ang Aw," and "Lengdang Tang A Bel." It also featured collaborations and new versions of some of her earlier songs.

News of her passing has deeply saddened fans, who are sharing their shock and condolences on social media. Her body will be taken to Champhai, with a short stop at a relative’s home in Ramhlun North Industry Mual, Aizawl, before the final rites.
