Mizoram: Amit Shah To Inaugurate Assam Rifles Complex On 1 April

AIZAWL: Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, will officially open the Assam Rifles facility and lay the cornerstone for the Laldenga Culture Center in Mizoram on April 1, according to announcements made on Wednesday.

The projected Rs. 1.93 crore center would be constructed on the northern side of the Assam Rifles field in the center of the state capital, according to Aizawl Smart City Project officials.

According to officials, the Assam Rifles' headquarters structure will be opened at Zokhawsang, roughly 15 kilometers east of Aizawl.

The 510 km of Mizoram's border with Myanmar has been patrolled by the Assam Rifles, who have two bases in Aizawl—Zodin and Khatla. It has been decided to relocate the battalion command from Zodin to Zokhawsang.

An Assam Rifles officer said that they have repeatedly reminded the state government that relocation of the battalion headquarters from Zodin to Zokhawsang is not desired unless all lingering difficulties and incomplete facilities are resolved and completed.

The office of the Mizoram Chief Minister tweeted: "Chief Minister Zoramthanga met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his office today. Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Hon'ble Union Home Minister on his promise to inaugurate Assam Rifles Bn Complex at Zokhawsang and lay the foundation stone for Laldenga Cultural Centre."

Zoramthanga expressed his gratitude to Shah and added that the MNF's and the people of Mizoram's aspirations are becoming a reality. Since the early 1990s, one of the MNF's key promises has been to relocate the Assam Rifles from the center of Aizawl city.

Laldenga first argued for the transfer of the Assam Rifles in 1988, following a confrontation in which the central paramilitary force claimed seven civilian lives. One of the MNF's key campaign pledges during the most recent Assembly elections in November 2018 was the relocation.

The Assam Rifles were ordered by the Union Home Ministry in February 2019 to move their battalion headquarters to Zokhawsang by May 31 of that year. Nonetheless, there were a number of delays.
