Mizoram Assembly Polls: Tripura CM Biplab Deb to Campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party

Mizoram Assembly Polls: Tripura CM Biplab Deb to Campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party

As part of a new tactic adopted for poll campaigning by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb will be visiting Mizoram for the pre-poll campaign. Being a BJP Chief Minister in Tripura, Biplab has been vested with this 'special responsibility' for campaigning in Mizoram.

Notably, the state elections in Mizoram are to be held on November 28 and as stated by Tripura BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty, the Tripura CM will especially be on a tour to Mizoram for the campaigning. Chakraborty added, “It is a tradition in BJP that leaders join campaigns and shoulder organizational activities in neighbouring states. Many chief ministers from northeastern states will join the campaign for Mizoram Assembly elections, including Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Tripura CM Biplab Deb was also given special responsibility to join campaign there.”

For this purpose, a team of BJP leaders led by General Secretary Pratima Bhowmik, has already been dispatched to Mizoram in order to check the preparations ahead of Chief Minister Deb’s visit. As stated by sources, the Tripura CM will be visiting five Assembly constituencies of Mizoram for the campaign. In addition to this, Deb will be go to other Assembly seats as well to join organizational activities.

The reason behind such special campaigns being designed for the Mizoram polls by the BJP is that Mizoram is the only state in northeast India where Congress is still in power and BJP has not been able to capture yet. This is why; BJP is making extra plans to win the state Assembly polls as part of its ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ motto.

Not only Deb, in fact, the BJP president Amit Shah too visited Aizawl earlier this month. Shah launched his party campaigns in the state and said the BJP would contest in all 40 Assembly seats in Mizoram. The party president also expressed that he is quite confident in BJP’s poll prospects and also said that the next Christmas in Mizoram would be celebrated under a BJP government’s rule.

However, this will not be the first time that Biplab Deb would be campaigning for BJP beyond the boundary of Tripura as, before this, he had campaigned for BJP at Chengannur in Alappuzha district of Kerala as part of bye-elections. In this poll, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) emerged victoriously.
