Mizoram Bans Import Of Dogs Following Rabies Outbreak In Manipur

AIZAWL: The Saitual district in Mizoram has announced a complete ban on the importation of dogs and this move comes in response to a reported rabies outbreak in the Churachandpur district of neighbouring Manipur.

This significant decision was officially finalized yesterday to protect public health and prevent the disease from spreading further.

Mizoram's Saitual district, which shares a border with Manipur, has also enforced robust measures to keep the prevailing situation under control.

Saitual District Magistrate (DM) Lalngura Tlau issued an order mandating all dog owners in the district to ensure that their pets are vaccinated against rabies.

In addition to it, owners have been strictly instructed to prevent their dogs from roaming freely in public spaces.

The precautionary directives has emphasized the severity of the outbreak in Churachandpur and highlighted the need to strictly adhere to existing laws to safeguard public safety.

The order specifically restricts the importation of dogs from other states and countries into Saitual district in Mizoram.

The administration has appealed to the public to inform about any sickness or deceased dogs to the nearest animal husbandry and veterinary office at the earliest.

It is worth mentioning that a pet owner will face legal consequences, including a possible six-month imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs. 5,000 if their dog bites another individual.
