AIZAWL: In a recent meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI), Dr. Renu Sharma, the Chief Secretary of Mizoram, discussed the measures put in place to ensure border security ahead of the upcoming elections. The meeting, known as the Inter-State Border Meeting, brought together representatives from five states - Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, along with delegates from twelve neighboring states via a virtual conference.

During the meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners (EC) Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel, Chief Secretary Sharma emphasized the importance of closely monitoring and sealing the borders from the conclusion of the campaign period until the day of voting.

The Election Commission of India expressed satisfaction with the level of coordination between the poll-bound states and their neighboring counterparts, noting that significant challenges were not being encountered. CEC Rajiv Kumar stressed the need for united efforts to combat issues such as vote-buying techniques and the illegal smuggling of drugs and goods across state borders. He also underlined the importance of stringent border security and cooperation among the states.

Dr. Renu Sharma, representing Mizoram, reported that preparations for the upcoming election were progressing smoothly and in compliance with the guidelines provided by the ECI. She highlighted that Mizoram is known for its peaceful atmosphere and noted that the state has not faced any major challenges in maintaining law and order. Dr. Sharma pointed out the ongoing communication and coordination with neighboring states, specifically Assam, Manipur, and Tripura, to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process.

The Inter-State Border Meeting between the Election Commission of India and representatives from several states, including Mizoram, highlighted the importance of border security and united efforts to ensure a smooth electoral process. With preparations on track and cooperative measures in place, the meeting served as a platform for sharing strategies and ensuring the security of the upcoming elections.
