Mizoram doctor arrested on charges of molesting and trying to murder a woman

The accused has been identified as JH Vanlalnunmawia, a native of Ramhlun North in Aizwal, who is currently working in Sakawrdai village as a doctor.

The incident took place on Monday night when the woman, who works as an NGO peer educator was moving from a neighboring village to her native village Sakawrdai in the doctor's car. The incident came to light after the victim's family filed a criminal case at Sakawrdai police station.

Police in-charge said that allegations of molestation, attempt to murder, and driving under the influence of alcohol have been leveled against the doctor.

The complainant, however claimed that the woman who is in her 20s, has been raped and was threatened that she would be killed if she told anyone or did not do as said by the accused, the police said.

The accused was arrested on Tuesday night, and on Wednesday he was brought before the magistrate in Aizwal.
