VAIRENGTE: A devastating fire broke out at around 3:30 PM on Saturday at Mizoram IOC Veng, Vairengte, claiming the life of an 89-year-old woman, Pi Lali, and completely destroying two houses.

The homes, owned by P. Chhuana and Thangmawii, were engulfed in flames after the fire started in Chhuana's residence and quickly spread to the neighbouring house.

At the time of the incident, four families resided in the two homes, but all the residents were away at work. Pi Lali, who had mobility issues, was the only person inside and tragically could not escape.

She perished in the fire, and her funeral is scheduled for noon today. As flames engulfed the homes, neighbors rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to control the fire. Although they were unable to save the two houses, their efforts prevented the blaze from spreading to other nearby buildings.

In another tragic incident, a 26-year-old woman, identified as Sarah Malsawmzuali, daughter of Johnny Zoliansanga and a resident of Dawrpui Veng, Aizawl, was found dead in a hotel room at Hotel Ahimsa, Zarkawt, Aizawl, last month in February.

According to reports, Malsawmzuali had locked herself inside her hotel room. When hotel staff and others tried to contact her by knocking on the door, there was no response. After repeated attempts, they managed to enter the room through the ventilation system, only to discover her lifeless body.
