Aizawl: In order to accelerate the process of contact tracing and collection of samples from people who came in contact with the positive patients, the Mizoram government on Thursday extended a partial lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area for three days till Sunday.

The decision was taken by senior officials, leaders of churches, and the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA).

Speaking on the decision of extending partial lockdown, Mizoram Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said, "There are many backlogs as far as contact tracing in Aizawl city area is concerned. So, in order to expedite the process of contact tracing and collection of samples from people, who came in contact with positive patients, the partial lockdown in the AMC area has been extended till Sunday.''

According to a state health department official, ''a total of 13,812 samples were collected in the AMC area during the partial lockdown which began in September. Of the 13,812 samples, 5,751 have been tested and results declared.''

He further added, ''125 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in AMC area as of now during a week-long partial lockdown.''
