
AIZAWL: Representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO), including Deputy Director Satoski Sasaki and senior program officer Divya Verma, conducted a meeting with officials from Mizoram's labor, employment, skill development, and entrepreneurship (LESDE) department on Monday.
LESDE Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar led discussions at the Secretariat Conference Hall focused on creating better prospects for Mizoram's workforce and young population.
The minister acknowledged the ILO's presence and underscored its significance in developing sustainable employment programs. Sasaki provided details about the ILO's purpose and worldwide operations, noting its inception in 1919 and subsequent integration as a UN-specialized agency in 1946.
He mentioned the organization’s current membership of 187 states and its Geneva headquarters while affirming the ILO's dedication to enhancing workers' conditions globally and its interest in supporting Mizoram's development. Senior program officer Divya Verma presented information about ILO's various initiatives and identified possible partnership opportunities beneficial for Mizoram.
LESDE secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau addressed the state's care and hospitality sector developments, particularly underlining women's contributions.
LESDE director John Tanpuia offered insights into Mizoram's labor situation and current initiatives, while Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) secretary V Lalmuanpuii shared details about the commission's support programs. A subsequent discussion at the LESDE Directorate Committee Room focused on program implementation strategies.
