AIZAWL: The swearing-in ceremony of Mizoram's governor-designate, Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh, has been rescheduled from Jan 9 to Jan 16. Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Gauhati High Court was set to administer the oath. Aizawl Raj Bhavan officials confirmed this change on Tuesday.
Officials said Singh postponed his arrival and inauguration ceremony because of family health concerns. He was initially expected to reach Aizawl on Wednesday and take the oath on Thursday. Updated information from Singh indicates his revised arrival in Aizawl is planned for Jan 15.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhavan, which will be attended by Lalduhoma, his cabinet colleagues, assembly speaker Lalbiakzama, deputy speaker Lalfamkima, MPs, important officials, and special invitees.
A senior Aizawl Raj Bhavan official said Mizoram currently lacks a governor since Hari Babu Kambhampati took charge as Odisha governor last Friday. "It seems that Mizoram will be without a governor for 9 days," he added.
The official expressed optimism that the delayed swearing-in would not affect the timing of the budget session, which typically commences in February, allowing the new governor sufficient time to convene it.
Singh was appointed as the new Governor of Mizoram by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24 to succeed Hari Babu Kambhampati, who was appointed as the new Governor of Odisha following the resignation of Raghubar Das.
