AIZAWL: Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati while speaking at the 72nd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Agartala called for connecting all the 118 remote villages in Mizoram with all-weather roads immediately. He pointed out that PMGSY was inadequate for the area due to low population density and called upon the Central Government to provide extra assistance to fill up the gap.
Praising the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for its investment-friendly initiatives, the Governor outlined Mizoram's proactive measures, including the formation of an Inter-departmental Investment Promotion Cell (IPC). IPC is actively engaging with investors in tourism, hospitality, and skill development.
He further recommended integration of cross-border markets in DoNER's vision of 24 growth centers and 20 border centers in North East Economic Corridor. He opined that this would help in garnering investment from neighboring countries and, thus, promote economic growth.
Governor Kambhampati suggested that the government should set up a world-class Skill Development Centre and modernize the existing ITIs to fill in the skill gaps. In addition, he recommended having a common exhibition center for the metropolitan cities to give handloom, handicraft, and organic products of Mizoram.
Addressing issues under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), he raised issues such as inadequate availability of seedlings and lack of agricultural road infrastructure. He demanded a strong market structure and a specific organic certification agency to facilitate organic farming in the state.
The meeting was attended by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, NEC Vice Chairman, other Union Ministers, Governors, and Chief Ministers from the northeastern states.
