Aizawl: The Mizoram government has drawn a lot of flak from the BJP for its decision to establish a different COVID Care Centre for VIPs testing positive for coronavirus.

Mizoram unit of BJP alleged the state government was honouring "VIP culture" at a time when the Centre was making efforts to do away with the practise.

The state government on Tuesday had issued an order designating a 28 bedded new MLA hostel at Khatla locality in Aizawl as COVID-19 Care Centre for treating VIPs with COVID.

Accusing the state government of being 'prejudiced' in its treatment towards officials and important persons, the saffron party stated that its lone legislator Dr. BD Chakma, who tested positive for the virus on Sunday, was shifted to Zora Medical Centre where he is undergoing treatment with other patients.

As per reports, ZMC in Aizawl is the lone dedicated COVID hospital in the state.

Although, the Mizo National Front (MNF)is part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), however BJP is not a part of the Zoramthanga government in the state.

"It is very unfortunate that Mizoram is dealing with a 'biased' government which is keen on showing partiality towards people, who are on good term with the MNF party," said in a statement.

Stating that establishnent of special centre for the VIP patients will only lead to wastage of public money at a time when the state is reeling under financial crisis, the BJP urged the state government to reverse its decision.
