Mizoram: Landslide Near Keifang Village Disrupts Aizawl-Champhai Road Connectivity

Aizawl: There was a massive landslide near Keifang village on May 4 following which road connectivity between Aizawl and Champhai in Mizoram has been snapped out.

Keifang village lies along the 186-kilometre-long main road that connects Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram and Champhai, a town situated near the India-Myanmar border.

Vehicular movement along the road has come to a halt as a result of landslide and rock-fall.

The landslide has also led to disruptions in human movements as well with hundreds of commuters getting stuck at the Aizawl-Champhai road in Mizoram on May 4.

As per reports, efforts are ongoing to clear the road as soon as possible so that the movement of vehicles along this vital route resumes.

Notably, owing to its terrain, landslides happen to be a common phenomenon across the northeastern states with many getting affected every year as a result of it.

Earlier, in an unfortunate incident, three members of a family were buried alive in a heavy landslide in Arunachal Pradesh's Kurung Kumey district near the China border.

As per the reports, the victims were identified as 50-year-old Sariu Tongdang, his wife Sariu Yajik (48), and their eight-year-old son Sariu Takar.

Heavy and incessant rains were creating havoc and fear among the citizens of the state over the past few days.

Heavy and incessant rain on April 17 triggered landslides in different locations, especially in the district headquarters here, disrupting surface communication, water, and electricity supply.

Following the havoc, the district headquarters remained cut off from the rest of the state as the roads were blocked in several places between the old DC office and the mini secretariat in Malapu.
