AIZAWL: A man was arrested by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department in collaboration with Assam Rifles after 112 grams of heroin were found in his possession in Champhai district.
The suspect, a resident of Zotlang in Champhai, was taken into custody on Thursday. He has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Earlier, on January 27, Assam Rifles had seized 2.27 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 7.64 crore, near the Indo-Myanmar border in Champhai district. Authorities are continuing their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
In a separate incident, a father and his 12-year-old son were caught allegedly selling drugs at Bhaga Bazar, near the Assam-Mizoram border. Locals discovered that the father had concealed small plastic containers of heroin in his son's pockets and was using him to distribute the drugs.
When suspicious locals checked the boy’s pockets, they found the drugs. In their anger, they caught the duo and started beating them. Amid the chaos, the father managed to escape on a scooter, followed shortly by his son, who fled in the confusion.
Police arrived after being alerted and recovered nine small containers of heroin from the scene. The authorities launched a manhunt for the pair.
