AIZAWL: Mizoram's Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar has dismissed allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the much-talked-about Village Council and Local Council elections scheduled for February 12. The opposition party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), had levelled the allegations by raising a complaint against Hmar and Public Works Department Minister Vanlalhlana.

The MNF charged that Vanlalhlana had been running a virtual campaign in his ministerial office in favour of Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) candidates for the Durtlang local council area. In this regard, a video which was circulating in social media led to showcause notices being issued by the State Election Commission against both ministers.

In another case, the MNF claimed that Hmar had revealed development plans and future projects during a meeting with ZPM candidates in his constituency on January 27, which they said was against MCC guidelines. However, Hmar justified his action, saying he did not announce any new projects, as all the initiatives mentioned had already been approved by the government before the meeting.

On Monday, both ministers submitted their replies to the State Election Commission. H. Lalthlangliana, State Election Commissioner, acknowledged that the commission is reviewing the submissions made and in due course will pass an order regarding the allegations.
