Guwahati: Mizoram State Transport Minister TJ Lalnuntluanga has announced that the state government would soon launch inter-state transport services to neighbouring states and Myanmar.

The Minister further informed that government is on a massive effort to launch bus services between Aizawl and Churachandpur in Manipur and Tahan in Chin state of Myanmar where the Mizo population live. "Mizoram has inter-state bus service with only neighbouring state of Assam and therefore we are launching the bus service to Aizawl and Manipur for the convenience of the public," Lalnuntluanga said.

He further said that Mizoram state Transport service is currently not functioning due to some reasons and now the efforts are being taken under the leadership of the Manipur Chief Minister Zoramthanga to improve the system. "New buses will be purchased and replace old ones to increase the transport services and to create new routes. Assistance would sought from the centre besides state resources to execute the project," Lalnuntluanga said.

He further reiterated that the state government is also taking massive efforts to establish inland transport system besides improving road transport so that people can commute through public transport without having much problems and will ease the communication.

Expressing concern over the increasing traffic snarl and cases of road accident in the State due to the rapid increase in the number of vehicles, the Minister said measures are being taken to introduce new rules for purchase of vehicles. "The highest number of road accidents involved two-wheeler bikes due to rash and drunken driving and to reduce the accidents the state government is mulling to introduce new regulations where people will be allowed to buy two-wheeler on production of driving license," informed Lalnuntluanga and said that the state government will take steps to reduce road accidents by 50% in two years.
