Mizoram To Reopen Over 300 Schools In Next Academic Session

MIZORAM: The Mizoram education department has decided to reopen over 300 schools in the state in the next academic session. The schools are those institutions that fall under Covid-19 free areas.

A report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) said the school education department issued an order on August 9 to permit the reopening of schools from primary to higher secondary level in villages and towns which are Covid-19 free with prior consultations with deputy commissioners.

The order also said that a standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the department for reopening of the schools would have to be followed strictly. As per the order, about 376 schools in seven districts, including Aizawl, will be re-opened for the new academic session 2021-2022.

According to the report of PTI, the bulk of the schools which fall in the Covid-19 free area have already started their regular classes, while more than 27 schools are likely to reopen very soon.

The report stated that around 49 schools have been allowed to re-open in Aizawl district, 151 in Champhai, 74 in Serchhip, 47 in Lawngltai, 11 in Siaha, 20 in Saitual, and 27 in Khawzawl district.

Moreover, on Friday, the Mizoram government has extended the partial lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area and imparted certain Covid restrictions in other parts of the state to be followed till September 4.

It may be mentioned that the state has registered 292 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the state's COVID-19 tally to 52,472 and the death toll to 200. Of the 292 persons who got infected by the virus, over 60 were kids. All the infected persons contracted the virus locally.

The new COVID-19 cases were reported from Aizawl, Siaha, Lunglei, Serchhip, Champhai, Mamit, Kolasib, and Lawngtlai.
