MIZORAM: The Mizoram Election Commission has asked its counterpart which is Tripura Election Commission to expedite the process of enrolling the names of Bru voters in the voter list.

David Liansanglura Pachuau, joint chief electoral officer has told reporters that he has requested to the stat election commissioner of Tripura to complete the process of enrolling the names of the bru in the voters list as early as possible.

As per the agreement in between Mizoram, Tripura, and Central government over 35000 bru of Mizoram who have been in Tripura since 1997 will be permanently resettled in Tripura.

The Mizoram voter list included up to 11,759 Bru voters who had been granted permission to relocate to Tripura.

Source said that among the 35,000 the election department of Tripura has only added 5, 000 names of bru however rest other didn't as the election department has stated that they didn't receive house as per the package.

Later, the Tripura High Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission of India, State Election Commission, and Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) for not including the names of Bru people in the draft voter list which was published for the upcoming village council election.

Earlier on September 16, the draft voter list of 2,634 constituencies of 587 village committees was released. The total number of voters in the published draft voter list is 8,86,334. Among them, 4,46,198 are male voters and 4,40,132 women voters. There are 4 other voters.

While speaking on the issues a source from the High Court said that today a petition was filed with the High Court on the issue and following which the court has issued notice to ECI, SEC, and TTAADC.

There are total 26, 000 eligible Bru voters but only names of 5000 included in the electoral roll and names around 21, 703 were not included as they didn't receive permanent houses and ROR and that is why they were not added.
