NFR GM meets Mizoram CM, conducts inspection of Bhairabi–Sairang new BG line project sites

GUWAHATI: Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway met Hon'ble Chief Minister of Mizoram Shri Zoramthanga at Aizawl today on 9th December, 2021. He was accompanied by senior officers from headquarters and the Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding division Shri J. S. Lakra. Other senior railway officers from the N. F. Railway were also present.

General Manager assured that N. F. Railway is ready to ply RORO service as per demand placed by the state government as and when required. N. F. Railway has examined the dimensions of plying RORO rakes between Bhanga to Bhairabi station and found to be feasible for carrying of commodities like POL, LPG to Mizoram. The service will help bringing faster development in the region.

In the context of discussion the General Manager informed the Chief Minister about services of Railways' Kisan Rail scheme. The service provides help farmers carrying their agri-products at 50% discounts to different destinations all over India. So far, N. F. Railway has carried commodities like pineapple from Agartala, potato from North Bengal and received agri-products from different destinations. Further, carrying of automobiles to Mizoram at cost effective way through specially designed NMGS rakes was also discussed upon. The General Manager proposed state government for using land by railways on mutation to take up various railway developmental works at Aizawl. The land can also be transferred to the state government on the basis of exchange of land as per requirement.

GM/NFR Shri Anshul Gupta also met Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary, Govt of Mizoram at Aizawl.Various issues of mutual interest for development of rail connectivity and schemes for economic progress of people of the state were discussed.GM also inspected Bridge No. 89, 115 and 196, one most critical bridges being constructed by Indian Railways under Bhairabi - Sairang new railway line project through dense and very difficult terrain. The tallest pier of Bridge No. 196 is of 101 meter and is crucial for connecting station Sairang near Aizawl.

Earlier on 8th December, 2021, the General Manager inspected work sites of the Bhairabi – Sairang new railway line project that will connect state capital of Mizoram. N. F. Railway (Construction Organisation) is executing the 51.38 Km long Bhairabi – Sairang new railway line project in Mizoram at an anticipated cost of Rs. 6,527 crore. The new line will end at Sairang; from Sairang station, the capital of Mizoram Aizawl is not far away. There will be 55 major and 87 minor bridges in the entire project. The project will also have 11 Road Over Bridges/Road Under Bridges. The entire project will involve the construction of 4 stations and 12.6 Km of tunnelling works. Works on the project is going on in full swing and expected to ready by March, 2024.

Once the project is completed, it will lead to economic development not only of the people of the Mizoram but also for the entire NE region.
