AIZAWL: President of India Droupadi Murmu, who was on a two-day visit to Mizoram, addressed a special session of the Assembly here. During her speech at the special session, President Murmu said that by exploring its past practices of best governance policies, the state can blend it with contemporary systems for the benefit of the people.

She further appreciated the rise of women representation in public life as witnessed in the state in the last several years.

Highlighting the Act East Policy of the Centre in her speech, she said that the role of North East has been emphasised in spearheading improvement of India's ties with the extended neighbours in Asia Pacific. She further added, "Mizoram benefits from and also makes contributions to the nation's endeavour to engage with the neighbours in the region."

Murmu stated that despite the challenges posed by the topography of the state, it has gone against odds to excel in all parameters ever since its attainment of statehood in the year 1987.
