Lawngtai: In a shocking incident in Lawngtai district of Mizoram, a dead body of a woman was recovered from her vegetable garden on Friday 14 January.

Police suspect that it is a murder case and there is a suspicion that the woman was raped before being killed.

The incident reportedly took place in the village name Nghalimlui that comes under the Lawngtai district of northeastern state Mizoram. Lawngtai district is in the southern part of Mizoram.

According to reports, the dead woman was later identified as Sadin Mela of 41 years old, a resident of Nghalimlui village. She was the wife of Sushil Kumar

Sadin was said to be missing from last week from 6 January 2022. Friends, relatives and close ones were searching for her since then.

After a long search, her body was found lying dead in her vegetable garden that is located 14 kilometers away from her home closed to a river.

She had major cuts in her head that are done with the help of a pointed weapon as informed by police officials.

The police said the dead body of the woman was found without undergarments and her private parts had injuries therefore it is suspected that she was raped before being brutally killed.

Other details about the case and the reason for death are not yet known to police officials and other sources.

Meanwhile, Lawngtai police have initiated a thorough investigation regarding the incident to find out the actual cause of death.

It may be mentioned that the state of Mizoram is regarded as one of the Indian states with the lowest crime rates related to women.

In comparison with other states in the country, the crimes against women reported in Mizoram are much lower as in the year 2020 the state has reported 33 cases of crimes against women.
