Guwahati: Nagaland has registered 5 more Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, sending the total soaring upwards to 127. Eight patients have so far been discharged after recovering from the respiratory illness.

"5 new cases of COVID-19 +ve have been reported out of 333 samples tested. 4 are from Dimapur quarantine centre and 1 is from a Kohima quarantine centre", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom tweeted.

Nagaland, which was coronavirus-free two weeks ago, on Saturday become the fourth north-eastern State after Assam, Tripura, and Manipur with total positive cases in three digits. With the return of around four lakh natives from south and north India, coronavirus cases in eight north-eastern States have spiked upwards at a dramatic rate.

Meanwhile, the number of cases have also contained to tick upwards in India. More than 2.56 lakh coronavirus cases have been reported in India till now after a record number of 9,983 cases were reported on Monday, even as the government has allowed a number of relaxations after over two months of lockdown. After the rapid surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, India has become the fifth worst-hit nation by the deadly virus in the world. Globally, the United States still leads the tally with 2,026,493 cases and 113,055 deaths.
