Guwahati: In a move aimed at adding teeth to the health infrastructure in the Northeast Indian State of Nagaland, the Central Government has approved the setting up of the second medical college in Nagaland.

Making the announcement, Nagaland's Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom said that the new government medical college will be set up by upgrading the district hospital in Mon district. For the Centre's assurance to set up a second medical college in Nagaland, Phom thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

"Thankful to BJP-led NDA Government under the dynamic & visionary leadership of Honble PM @narendramodi & Union Health Minister @drharshvardhan for approving & sanctioning new Government Medical College by upgrading District Hospital Mon," Phom wrote in a tweet.

"This landmark decision of the Union Government will boost Nagaland Governments effort to revolutionize the state health sector. The approval of a new Medical College has fulfilled the long-cherished dream of the people of Nagaland and Eastern Nagas in particular," he wrote in a subsequent tweet.

Nagaland's very first medical college is under construction in the state capital of Kohima.
