Nagaland: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Urges Corporates for Investment in Northeast India

KOHIMA: In a compelling address at the regional CXO meet 2023, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio fervently appealed to the Union rural development ministry and corporate entities to explore and invest in Nagaland and the wider Northeast region. The event, hosted by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, showcased the strategic potential of the area as a gateway to neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

Chief Minister Rio emphasized that the Central government's initiatives are creating unprecedented opportunities in the region. He urged corporate houses to consider the advantage of investing and establishing their units in the Northeast ahead of others, highlighting the region's pivotal location.

Addressing concerns about peace and security, which have historically hindered development, Rio noted a positive shift in the scenario. Citing the National Crime Bureau Report 2021, he highlighted Nagaland's lowest crime rate against women, making it one of the safest places to live.

Expressing satisfaction with the growing interest of employers in the state, Rio applauded the regional CXO Meet under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). He mentioned that rural youth in the Northeast are seizing opportunities to work in multinational companies, contributing economically to their households.

Rio shared his happiness about the rural youth's increasing participation in the DDU-GKY program, leading to job placements in private companies. He emphasized that this trend is encouraging, considering the prevalent dependence on government employment in most northeastern states, which is already saturated.

Highlighting a shift from traditional employment avenues, Rio revealed that the number of rural youths opting for skill development and private sector jobs is rising. He commended the participation of senior-level representatives from reputed companies at the employers' meet, signaling the success of Northeastern youth in the corporate world.

Chief Minister Rio celebrated the Northeast's youth for carving a niche in the corporate realm, demonstrating their eagerness to contribute to and be recruited by the expanding job market in the region.
