New Tribal Affairs Department created

KOHIMA: The Department of Tribal Affairs, Nagaland, has created a Tribal Affairs department. In order to discharge the functions of the Department, the Finance Department will provide a separate Demand Number with all Head of Accounts and RFC number to complete formalities with the Accountant General's Office to facilitate financial transactions. The ongoing project and the projects already sanctioned will be implemented by the Planning Department. However, for the current year projects, arrangement will be decided by the two departments with approval of the Chief Minister, stated a release.

Notification on attendance

KOHIMA: The Nagaland Chief Secretary has informed that the attendance of Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments at important government functions and National Days has been an issue. Barring exceptional unavoidable circumstances, all senior officials have been directed to compulsorily attend important functions without fail. It may be noted that even if invitations have been extended, attendance at functions like Republic Day, Independence Day and Governor's At Home are considered to be 'On Duty', stated a release.

Civic reception

KOHIMA: A civic reception for the new Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi will be held at NBCC Convention Centre from at 11 am on August 16. Governor Ravi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will address the function. Various shows will be presented on the occasion by members of the Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club (NAGC), Surumi Cultural Society, Baptist Revival Church, Kohima and the Purple fusion. President, Tenyimia Public Organisation (TPO) will address the welcome note while President Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO) and Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) will speak on behalf of their organisations, stated a release.

Mass social work

AGHUNATO: In connection with the upcoming Independence Day celebration 2019, a mass social work was carried out in Aghunato town on Wednesday. Among those who participated in the programme were Gaon Burah (GBs), Adhoc TCMS, elders and the public, stated a release.

Militants held

KOHIMA: In the run-up to Independence Day, the Army and the Arunachal Pradesh police carried out a joint operation in Tirap district and apprehended one NSCN-U insurgent. The person has been identified as self-styled lieutenant Khuliam Sumpa, age 36 years, resident of Old Kheti Village in Tirap district and currently staying in Khonsa.

A USA-made.32 mm pistol with magazine and other documents have been seized from his possession. The cadre along with recovered items have been handed over to police for further investigation, stated a release.

In another incident, based on specific intelligence on the movement of cadres of a militant outfit across the Indian-Myanmar border in the Tirap district to execute subversive activities on the occasion of independence day, troops of Assam Rifles launched a coordinated operation in the border areas of South Arunachal Pradesh. The successful operation led to the apprehension of four senior cadres of CORCOM faction along with weapons and ammunition.The apprehended individuals along with recoveries have been handed over to Laju Police Station for further investigation.
