KOHIMA: A fire completely destroyed one house and partly damaged two others in Upper Khel, Aonglenden Ungma in Nagaland on Monday morning. The fire started around 9:20 am, according to the officer in charge of Fire & Emergency Services.

After receiving the distress call, fire trucks were quickly sent from Marepkong and Sungkomen fire stations. The Assam Rifles also helped in dousing the fire.

Even though the area was crowded, the fire only affected the three houses, and no other buildings were damaged. Luckily, no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Meanwhile, earlier last week, a major fire erupted in the Sisa Golai area of Gangtok around noon, destroying a house. The flames spread rapidly, but prompt response by the fire brigade helped prevent additional damage. At around 12:00 PM, eyewitnesses reported that the fire began rapidly and consumed the house. Firefighters soon reached the scene and managed the flames before they spread to the nearby buildings.

There were no cases of casualties reported. Sikkim Police’s Director General of Police (DGP), Akshay Sachdeva, confirmed that local police from Sadar Police Station and fire department personnel responded promptly. Investigations suggested that the fire may have been triggered by a cylinder blast.

Traffic units were deployed to divert vehicles, ensuring clear access for emergency responders. DGP Sachdeva remarked that the police, with assistance from local residents, had swiftly removed nearby gas cylinders to mitigate further risks. The exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.
