Nagaland man builds his own Hobbit Home in Khonoma Village

KOHIMA: Inspiring from the JRR Tolkien's novels 'Hobbits', a 29-year old boy from Nagaland has built his own hobbit house.

Meet Asakho Chase who has built his holiday house in the middle of a jungle near Khonoma village which has recently gone viral in the internet. After he has built the house, its is known as hobbit home in Khonoma.

Chase is working as a teacher in Dimapur of Nagaland.

Chase calls his creation The Hobbit Home, as it resembles the quaint, little beautiful homes of Hobbits from JRR Tolkien's novels.Chase almost took two months to construct this 10×14 foot house. In these two months, Chase spent three whole days just digging 5 foot of wet soil! He used alder wood to make the front wall. The round-shaped vibrant door and window looks super creative and impressive.

Chase mother planted colorful flower in the house which made the house more beautiful. There's also a pretty vegetable garden, which gives it a homely feel.

Now people who are interested to visit hobbit house, have to visit Nagaland and of course the village which is close to the Indo-Myanmar border.

The home can accommodate around seven people and has a separate kitchen. Now that people are showing interest in booking the house, Chase is planning to add some furniture and a badminton court. He is excited to share how many locals, including prominent musician and Yamaha artiste Nise Meruno, who is also a native of Khonoma village, have expressed desire to visit the hobbit home once the village allows reopening of tourism activities.

Meanwhile, with Covid-19 positive cases witnessing a gradual decline in the past few weeks, the Meghalaya government has decided to restart its tourism activities from September 1 with various protocols.

According to reports tourists who are fully vaccinated (ie those who have completed two doses) will be permitted to visit Meghalaya for tourism-related purposes from September 1.
