KOHIMA: Representatives from various Naga political groups gathered in Nagaland on Tuesday to deliberate over the operationalization of the collaborative framework 'Council of Naga Cooperation and Relationship' to help siphon unity out of Naga factions. The meet underscored the aspect of collective action that appealed to all political entities of Naga factions and the greater community of Nagas to engage in this process.

In a signed statement, the leaders acknowledged their past mistakes as they realized their drive for Naga aspirations had been such that sometimes their acts and words had been divisive and promoted discontent. They promised to become more vigilant, responsible, and accountable in all efforts toward the future.

The group reiterated its commitment to the strengthening of the 2009 Covenant of Reconciliation and emphasized the respect for Naga historical and political rights. They cited some historical milestones, such as the Naga memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929, the declaration of Naga independence in 1947, and the Naga voluntary plebiscite of 1951, as foundational elements of their identity and aspirations.

The representatives concurred that the Naga ancestral territories and identity transcend artificial boundaries, committing to the collective defense of these inalienable rights. This forum is organized by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, an organization dedicated to promoting dialogue and mutual understanding among diverse Naga groups toward achieving an enduring peace and unity.
