Nagaland: Prohibitory Orders Clamped in Village on the Peren-Chumoukedima Border

KOHIMA: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was imposed in Lamhai Namdi village on the borders of Peren and Chumoukedima district by the Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Vineet Kumar. It was imposed to ensure peace for the public and alert the travelers on the Mon-Kimyevi-Mhainistir-Peren route and the Dimapur-Pimla-Peren route to take safety measures and stay alerted. The order came into force at 12pm on Monday and shall be in force until further orders, the DC  announced.

This was after a massive dispute flared between the the locals of the Peren side and locals from the other side of the border. The Peren side attacked the locals from the other side as they suspected them to be approaching towards Peren to destroy the structures that were set up in the disputed area.

The full fledged violence occurred on Monday. According to sources, the atrocity took place because of land issues between the locals. The police confirmed that the violence was seen in the border area near Lamhai Namdi village in Peren. Even though Lamhai Nandi is a suggested village in the Peren district of Nagaland, but the boundaries between Peren and Chumoukedima, earlier known as Dimapur district are not marked properly. This resulted in a dispute and tension in-between people in both the areas.

However the cops did not reveal in depth information as the case was still going through proper investigation. But some locals were reportedly injured during the violent episode, and three people were victims of shotgun shots, sources reveal.

A group of auxiliary police force was assigned in the disputed area and top officers hurried to the spot, said the police.

Meanwhile, Dimapur commissioner of police Rothihu Tetseo has also issued prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC prohibiting assembly of not more than five persons, carrying lethal weapons and firearms including lathis, daggers/machetes, sticks, spears, catapults or any other dangerous articles in the highway stretch along Vihuto village-Khehoyi village-Kiyevi village area and the Chumoukedima-Peren border belt.
