Rain, hailstorm damage 268 houses in Mizoram

GUWAHATI: Rain and hailstorm have damaged 268 houses in Mizoram.

Around 4 pm on Thursday, severe weather conditions at Hliappui village in east Mizoram’s Saitual district near Manipur border left so many houses damaged.

One person was injured in the incident and a few livestock animals were killed.

Local officials and church institutions are providing relief to the families.

A few days ago, two people have died and three have been injured in thunder strike in West Khasi Hills. Hailstorms have also derailed life in the area.

The deceased Phuldaris Marwein (40 yrs) and Horbius Jyrwa (20 yrs) from Mawkadiang village, along with the ones injured were working in paddy fields when the incident took place. The incident took place on Tuesday morning at around 11.45 AM.

The headman of the area rushed to the spot when the incident took place. The injured were all taken to a hospital and out of the five, two people died.

Hailstorms in Maweit area also derailed life. 65 homes were damaged on 20 April at around 2.00 AM due to this.

Government officials are taking stock of the situation and assessing the damages.
