GANGTOK: Local officials have announced that tourists will be denied entry to Nathula, located near the India-China border in Sikkim, on January 1, 2025, due to a scheduled special border personnel meeting on that day.

Officials have announced that Nathula will remain temporarily closed to tourists and civilians on January 1 to ensure the smooth conduct of an important meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on the Indian side of Nathula, and to ensure its seamless proceedings, all movement in and around the area will be restricted for the day. Visitors planning to travel to Nathula on that date are urged to reconsider their plans.

Meanwhile, other popular attractions in the region, including Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir, will remain open to tourists as usual. Authorities have encouraged travelers to plan their trips accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure a pleasant experience during their visit to Sikkim.

Meanwhile, earlier today, in light of the winter season and the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions in mountainous regions, the Tawang District Administration has issued an advisory to ensure public safety. Visitors planning to travel to high-altitude destinations such as Bumla Pass, Shongtser Lake, PT Tso, and Sela Pass are urged to adhere to the following safety guidelines:

  • Weather Awareness

  • Travel Precautions

  • Outdoor Activities
