GANGTOK: In a decisive action against cyber fraud, Sikkim's Sadar Police Station apprehended an individual involved in Google Pay (GPay) scams. The accused, identified as Shiva Gurung, also known as Stefen Gurung, was taken into custody, and necessary legal proceedings have been initiated. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the scam and to identify any potential associates.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested in Rangpo, East Sikkim, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl earlier on January 20. This incident came to light when Rangpo Primary Health Centre (PHC) reported the incident to the authorities after the mother of the victim brought her child for a medical examination.

The man had reportedly lured the victim to a secluded location from her house, which he entered at around 1:00 PM in the afternoon. The girl screamed as the man touched her inappropriately, which alarmed her elder sister and another passerby, who rescued her from being further assaulted. Upon their arrival, the perpetrator left the scene immediately.
