Sikkim: SKM Celebrates 13th Foundation Day with Grandeur

GANGTOK: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) marked its 13th Foundation Day on Tuesday with celebrations held across all 31 constituencies. Each event was led by the MLAs of the area, showing the party's strong presence in many places.

Chief Minister and SKM Party President PS Golay attended the ceremony at Bengthang Tar in the Rhenock constituency. This was his first public visit to the area since he was elected as the MLA in the last assembly elections. He was warmly welcomed by excited local youth when he arrived.

The celebration began with Chief Minister Golay lighting a lamp and cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion. Former MLA Bishnu Kumar Khatiwada was the special guest at the event in Rhenock constituency. SKM party officials from different committees, Zilla and gram panchayats, as well as many supporters, attended the gathering.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, the 38th Foundation Day of Biswanath College of Agriculture, the only place of agricultural education in the north bank of the Brahmaputra, had been celebrated on Sunday. The programme had begun with the hoisting of the college flag. Associate Science Guru, Dr. Ranendra Nath Burman, had hoisted the flag and urged the students, teachers, and employees to render selfless service to society. Retired Professor Dr. Krishna Kumar Das and Professor Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma of the College had also spoken about their experiences at different times after the commencement of the college.

Taking part as the Chief Guest in the open session, Atul Borah, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Assam, had mentioned the progress of Assam Agricultural University for the development of agriculture in Assam. Referring to the development of the agricultural sector in Assam, all the students had been urged to go ahead in this direction.
