BJP Panchayat Samity facing no-confidence

Agartala: Chairman of one more all-BJP Panchayat Samity– Bokafa –is facing a no-confidence motion, voting for which will be held on February 11. A special session of the samity will be held in its conference hall, a notification issued by the district administration said.

The BJP won all the nine seats of the samity uncontested in the last election but dispute over election of the Chairman was going on from the beginning. The nomination declared by the State committee of the party was rejected by the majority of the members and they refused to attend the meeting to elect chairman.

Later, the party leadership forced the members to accept the party nominee but the latent discontent was going on which resurfaced recently when six members including the vice-chairman submitted a letter expressing no-confidence to the chairman. The vice-chairman will preside over the special session as it will consider the no-confidence motion against the chairman. If the chairman fails to prove his majority, another meeting will be called to elect a new chairman.
