Cattle infectious disease ‘Lumpy’ causes panic in Tripura

Agartala: A deadly infectious disease called Lumpy is spreading rapidly in Bishalgarh area causing panic among the cattle farmers. The fear has been multiplied over non-availability of proper treatment and medicine and the cattle farmers are fearing an epidemic-like situation if immediate steps are not taken.

The symptoms of the Lumpy disease are swelling in the mouth, enlarged superficial lymph nodes multiple nodules on the skin and muscle cramps. At a point of time, the cattle become weak and can’t move. Initially, the cattle farmers could not realize the effect of the disease and was applying local medicines. However, the veterinary doctors identified the disease and advised the cattle farmers to apply antibiotic medicines including painkillers for ten days.

The farmers panicked as the medicines are not available in government stores of private shops.

Report of the disease spreading has arrived from villages like Brajapur, Amtali, Lalsinghmura, Rangapania, Ramcherra, Shibnagar, Ghanyamura, Murabari, Raghunathpur, Chandra Nagar, Dhwaja Nagar, Gopinagar and many more.

Cattle farmers have already contacted the local veterinary hospital but allege that they are not getting proper response.
